Course overview:
The SARS-CoV-2 Bioinformatics Training was a follow-up to our SARS-CoV-2 NGS training. The focus for the modules was more advanced bioinformatics analysis, data curation and dissemination of findings from SARS-CoV-2 NGS data.
Intended audience:
Personnel of national public health institutions on the African continent, carrying out bioinformatics analyses, and individuals involved in SARS-CoV-2 research.
- A pre-course workshop was presented from 5-7 October 2021. A number of topics relevant to the course were introduced, including:
- 1. Unix, command line
- 2. Git, version control
- 3. High perfomance computing
Logistics:
- Venue of course: Online through Zoom
- Dates for the course: 11 October 2021 - 19 November 2021
- Participation: The course was available to any participant who was able to attend the Zoom sessions and the interactive hours with the course instructors for the days of the course

- Registration for participants opened: 13 September 2021
- Registration for participants closed: 30 September 2021
Objectives and expected outcomes:
- The course was designed for individuals who were currently, or would be, involved in bioinformatics analysis of SARS-CoV-2 data. The training focused on key topics such as data curation and sharing, advanced bioinformatics analysis, and presenting data to inform policy makers.
